Administration

Principal- Casey Lloyd

It is with great pride and continued excitement that I welcome you to a new school year at Southwest Elementary. I am honored to serve as your principal and to be part of a community that is deeply committed to educational excellence and the success of every child.

I bring 26 years of experience with Guilford County Schools, where I’ve served in a variety of roles including classroom teacher, Exceptional Children’s teacher, Mission Possible Specialist, Curriculum Facilitator, assistant principal at Hunter Elementary, and principal at Alderman Elementary. Each chapter of my career has reinforced my belief in the power of strong school-family partnerships and the importance of creating a nurturing, high-quality learning environment.

Outside of school, I am a proud wife and mom to 18-year-old twins who are headed off to college this fall. Watching them reach this milestone has deepened my appreciation for the vital role schools play in preparing students not only academically, but also socially and emotionally, for the future.

I continue to believe wholeheartedly that every child deserves a top-notch education, and that this is best achieved when families and schools work closely together. My commitment remains to support our incredible staff so they can, in turn, provide the best possible experience for our students.

Thank you for the opportunity to work with you and your child. I look forward to another great year of learning, growth, and collaboration!

Assistant Principal- Maggie Dowling

My name is Maggie Dowling, and I am honored to continue serving as the Assistant Principal at Southwest Elementary. It has been a joy to be part of the Cowboy family, and I’m excited for another amazing year of learning, growth, and connection here at SWE!

As a proud product of Guilford County Schools, I’m passionate about giving back to the community that shaped me. I earned my undergraduate degree in Special and Elementary Education from UNC Greensboro, and in 2023, I completed my Master’s in Executive Leadership from Gardner-Webb University.

With 13 years of experience in education, I’ve had the privilege of working as an Exceptional Children’s teacher, serving in the EC Department, coaching teachers in curriculum, and helping lead as an assistant principal. These diverse roles have grounded my belief in inclusive, student-centered education.

I believe that ALL students can learn and succeed—and it is our shared responsibility as educators to create the environment and opportunities they need to thrive. That happens when staff are supported, families are engaged, and we work together to nurture the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and functionally.

We are doing important, impactful work here at SWE, and I’m proud to be a part of it. Let’s continue to ride strong together—Go Cowboys!

Assistant Principal-Sophia McDougal

I want to begin by saying how excited I am to continue this journey with you at Southwest Elementary School. My role is all about building relationships and supporting academic excellence, so I’d like to take a moment to share a bit about myself—both personally and professionally.

I’ve proudly served in Guilford County Schools since 1996, with over 25 years of experience in a variety of roles. Originally from Philadelphia, PA (Go Eagles!), I now call this amazing community home. I’m also a proud wife and mom of three children, including one who will be starting as a freshman at Southwest High School this year!

It is truly an honor to help lead a school filled with persevering students, a dedicated and passionate staff, and an incredibly supportive school community. I feel fortunate to be part of the Southwest Elementary family and am committed to continuing the important work of supporting our staff, students, and families.

Here’s to another great year—Go Cowboys!
