Principal- Casey Lloyd

It is with great pride and continued excitement that I welcome you to a new school year at Southwest Elementary. I am honored to serve as your principal and to be part of a community that is deeply committed to educational excellence and the success of every child.

I bring 26 years of experience with Guilford County Schools, where I’ve served in a variety of roles including classroom teacher, Exceptional Children’s teacher, Mission Possible Specialist, Curriculum Facilitator, assistant principal at Hunter Elementary, and principal at Alderman Elementary. Each chapter of my career has reinforced my belief in the power of strong school-family partnerships and the importance of creating a nurturing, high-quality learning environment.

I firmly believe that school should be a place where students are excited to learn each day. Creating engaging, meaningful, and fun learning experiences helps foster curiosity, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love of learning. I am also passionate about early literacy and believe that strong reading skills provide the foundation for success in all areas of life. Ensuring that every child becomes a confident reader remains one of my highest priorities.

I continue to believe wholeheartedly that every child deserves a top-notch education, and that this is best achieved when families and schools work closely together. My commitment remains to support our incredible staff so they can, in turn, provide the best possible experience for our students.

Thank you for the opportunity to work with you and your child. I look forward to another great year of learning, growth, and collaboration at Southwest Elementary.

Assistant Principal-Sophia McDougal

I want to begin by saying how excited I am to continue this journey with you at Southwest Elementary School. My role is all about building relationships and supporting academic excellence, so I’d like to take a moment to share a bit about myself—both personally and professionally.

I’ve proudly served in Guilford County Schools since 1996, with over 25 years of experience in a variety of roles. Originally from Philadelphia, PA (Go Eagles!), I now call this amazing community home. I’m also a proud wife and mom of three children, including one who will be a senior at Southwest High School this year!

It is truly an honor to help lead a school filled with persevering students, a dedicated and passionate staff, and an incredibly supportive school community. I feel fortunate to be part of the Southwest Elementary family and am committed to continuing the important work of supporting our staff, students, and families.

Here’s to another great year—Go Cowboys!
